Trump's Reported 4-Word Remark To Max Miller Signals Future Of His Candidacy

President Donald Trump phoned Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) to let him know that "things aren't looking good" in his reelection bid following domestic violence accusations, Axios reported Monday.

Since the allegations against Miller surfaced, some GOP senators have called for Miller to resign, and the president on Monday called him a "good person." No House Republicans have urged him to step aside.

But in a phone call with the Republican lawmaker, Trump took a more skeptical tone, three sources familiar with the call told Axios.

He repeatedly told Miller that his reelection would be difficult and that "things aren't looking good," according to the insiders. Miller reportedly told Trump he's staying in the race.

Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), Miller's former father-in-law, has called for Miller to drop out.

The congressman's ex-wife Emily Moreno alleged Miller threw scalding water on her, held a gun to her head, and pushed her so hard against a wall that she hit her head. Miller is also accused of breaking their daughter's collarbone. "Daddy kill you," their daughter told the mother, according to court documents cited by The New York Times. Miller has denied the claims.

Miller faces Democrat Brian Poindexter in the general election.

The embattled Republican would have to withdraw before Wednesday to facilitate a special election to replace him on the ballot, according to Axios.
