Longtime CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer went on air Saturday morning following the U.S. and Israel launching a major attack on Iran, and the first words out of his mouth were ominous.
“Looks like this is gonna escalate big time in the coming hours, and days, for that matter,” Blitzer said moments after joining “First of All with Victor Blackwell” at around 8 a.m. Saturday.
Blitzer’s statement came as Blackwell was recapping Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Israel and U.S. military sites across the region. Blackwell noted that Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had “promised an expanded regional response” in the event of a strike, and “we’re now seeing it.”

Trump announced at 2:30 a.m. Saturday via Truth Social that the strikes had occurred, urging the Iranian public to rise up against its leadership and “seize control of your destiny.” Iranian state media said later that day that at least 201 people had been killed and more than 700 injured in the attacks.
