Thomas Massie unfazed by Bill Cassidy's defeat in Louisiana

Even as President Donald Trump continued to post Truth Social statements attacking him, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) expressed confidence Sunday in how we do in Tuesday's primary voting.

Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Massie said of the rhetoric of his foes: "You can tell that I’m ahead in the polls and they’re desperate."

In explaining why he thinks he will win, he touted his endorsements and his fundraising muscle.

"I’ve had millions of dollars come in from the grassroots," he told host George Stephanopoulos, "tens of thousands of donors, to my website, thomasmassie.com. And it’s still coming in. And that’s how we’re going to beat them."

Trump did score a primary win Saturday. He had opposed Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who finished third in the Louisiana Senate race, which means he won't be in the GOP runoff.

Next up in the president's sights: Massie, who has served in the House since 2012.

Trump has endorsed Ed Gallrein in the Kentucky primary, which is being described as the most expensive House primary in American history.

On Sunday morning, Trump wrote of Massie: "The Worst Republican Congressman in History. Kentucky, vote the bum out on Tuesday. We can’t live with this troublemaker for another two years."

Assailing his foes, Massie also put a twist on the debate over funding for the new White House ballroom, saying that the reason Trump's donors are no longer being counted on to pay for it is because they are spending so much in trying to unseat him.

"Miriam Adelson has given so much money to my opponent that instead of paying for the ballroom they’re going to need taxpayer money for the ballroom now," he said.
