Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) says he proudly supports the state of Israel but criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership and opposition to a two-state solution. In an interview with POLITICO’s Jonathan Martin, the California Democrat defended his comments likening Israel to an ‘apartheid state,’ citing New York Times opinion writer Thomas Friedman.
