Lauren Boebert Defends Son Accused Of Abusing Her Grandson

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has spoken out after her son, Tyler Boebert, was cited for alleged misdemeanor child abuse of her grandson by Windsor (Colo.) police.

The Republican firebrand’s eldest child, 20, was charged with criminal negligence where no death or injury occurred, according to a summons reported by local news site Westword on Saturday. It provided no other details.

Boebert, 38, said the accusation from the July 11 incident stemmed from “miscommunication.”

“Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year,” she said in a statement published by People on Sunday. “Unfortunately, this event stems from a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house.”

“I am confident this is a one-time incident that we have addressed as a family,” Boebert added, per the New York Post.

Tyler Boebert, who with his girlfriend welcomed a son, the politician’s first grandchild, in 2023, has had several run-ins with the law.

In October 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft after being accused of multiple instances of stealing from cars and using stolen credit cards. He avoided time behind bars.

In 2022, Tyler rolled over his dad’s SUV, injuring a passenger. A careless driving citation was downgraded to “defective vehicle for headlights” in a plea deal, the Post reported.

HuffPost has reached out to Windsor police for comment.
